Like mother like daughter...
Or is it, like daughter like mother?
Things my daughters and I wear...
When I started The LKO Edit, one of my goals was to share looks and wardrobe pieces that felt chic and on trend while still remaining ageless and timeless - in other words, things my daughters (and their friends) would want to wear too.
A tall order, perhaps, but I think I’ve stayed pretty true to that balance.
Of course, there are plenty of things they wear that I don’t always share here - not because I don’t love them, but because not every trend works both ways. There are certain things and looks you eventually age out of, and honestly, that’s okay. That’s life.
But there are also plenty of pieces you can wear forever, and that’s what I love exploring here. As I’ve said before, the more intentional you are with your purchases, the more chic, timeless, and enduring your wardrobe becomes.
So today, I thought it would be fun to look at some of my casual summer wardrobe pieces and share what they also like, may have borrowed or have hanging in their own closets…
Classic Cardigan - A versatile workhorse. Wear with a t-shirt, a blouse, over your shoulders with a dress or as a shirt. A classic staple you will never age out of. Doen makes beautiful ones and I just ordered this one in navy and I love this green.
Summer flats - pop of red or classic black tip ballet flat, a chic woven or this v cute espadrille. Victoria has red ballet flats that just look so chic with everything.
Denim - barrel or classic Levi and of course, a jean jacket, a warm weather staple.
Canfora Sandals - they all live in the Gail and Tara styles and all of them have a gold chain style, either the Isabelle, K or Jackie. Email me to order.
White shirt - yes, they all have and wear them. This and this are two simple, cool, well priced options - that will get reached for again and again. And, of course, oversized versions make the perfect coverup.
Cotton poplin skirt - white, black or color. They all wear this style skirt in the summer. Joan lived in them in the Middle East. They are so comfy and light and can easily be dressed up or down. They are especially ideal for Europe with a cute pair of sneakers. I wear a t-shirt with mine, they also wear with tees but may also wear with cropped or bikini style tops (which you will not see me in lol)
Linen - We all have lots of linen. Georgia has a few matching sets, long and short, that looks so chic. J Crew has lots of color options for similar monochromatic looks…shorts or pants and matching shirts in tons of colors (order up for an oversized look). There’s lots of linen out there at a variety of price points from Quince to J. Crew to even H & M.
Statement necklace - Like this from Julietta. I have a similar one from this brand and it makes so many of my outfits look so much chicer. This brand makes some more affordable options that are also super fun.
Chic cross body - They have all borrowed this bag. It’s v cute and oh so handy, especially for trips. Another wardrobe workhorse.
Oval shape sunnies, Straw hats, French stripe shirts…and we’d all use pretty much any of these straw bags.
LKO Tip: Pick one or two things to add to your wardrobe. Chances are they will add just the right amount of newness (and chicness!) to your looks this summer.
Lifestyle
As a family, we are all obsessed with Stanley Tucci so I am happy to announce that his show, Tucci in Italy (season 2) streams on Disney+ and Hulu starting TONIGHT!
Speaking of Stanley, I went to see The Devil Wears Prada with my mom for a little Mother’s Day date, and it was great. I don’t go to the movies a lot and this reminded me that it is so much fun and I should go more often.
There’s been a lot of chatter about this movie, both good and bad, but I have to say: I really liked it. They brought back all the funny characters from the original (and they all look great!) and it was so fun. Not once did I think they should’ve just left it as a one and done…which often happens with sequels. So grab some friends or your date and go to the movies!
Food
This weekend I made Ina’s lemon skillet chicken and it is so delicious, so easy and perfectly healthy (which isn’t always the case with our girl). Also, I’ve been making roasted potatoes for a while now, recipe courtesy of my British friend, and they are so good and also so easy. Just buy baby potatoes. Boil till soft, press with bottom of a glass to smash, place on a cookie sheet, drizzle with olive oil and salt and pepper and roast at 400 (ideally on the convection roast setting) and don’t take out until they are thoroughly brown and crispy. OH. SO. GOOD. Also a fairly healthy way to eat potatoes.
OK. That’s it for today. Have a fab week. Thanks for being here. If you’re enjoying the edit, please share it!
