Lately...
on this last day of March
We are finally digging our way out of winter which, for many of us, means increasingly busy social calendars. And also means it’s time to really start figuring out what we’re wearing to everything.
This time of year tends to get busy quickly, and I’d like to feel a little more put together than I did yesterday - when I was absolutely scrambling with my wardrobe. It was cold in the morning and then suddenly quite warm by the afternoon so I was peeling off the layers on the streets of NYC…not exactly feeling chic. hah
I’ve got a graduation, some birthdays, and a wedding coming up, so I need to sort out my wardrobe - both special occasion and good basics. I’ve done a little deep dive into spring/summer dresses and have ordered a few that might work. I’ll report back if any of them are actually worth recommending.
In the meantime, I’m sharing a few staples I’ve been intentionally thinking through before ordering. This is something I always recommend here at The LKO Edit: don’t just order things randomly - take a moment to figure out what you actually need. These are the pieces I’m currently ready to hit “place order” on.
Fashion
This assortment has come together in a pretty funny way…we’ve got a few rounds of “this or that” along with an unintentional red, white and blue theme. hah Let’s review…
I want red pants. I like these…and these. One pair is half the price. Tthe white are also v cute and remind me of my favorite Ruti (like the summer version).
French blue shirt. Same situation: a $200 version and a $100 version. Both chic.
Stylist Karla Welch (for people like Hailey Bieber) did a collaboration with Spanx for tees. I bought a couple of white tees early on that I’m wearing constantly so I’m in the process of collecting a few more and these have my attention.
This navy short-sleeve mock neck is calling to me. I think it will be flattering and chic, especially with white denim.
This dress has shown up on so many influencer “favorites” lists - and it’s on sale. It just seems chic and comfy and the ideal thing to dress up or down (also comes in black)
I love a red Mary Jane. I lived in Mary Janes all winter (when not in snow boots) so I am pretty certain I’m ready for a red pair. I also love these Khaite-adjacent flats…a quiet, chic, wear-with-anything neutral (on major sale)
I have also finally figured out how to tie a scarf in my hair without looking like a weirdo. The trick is using much thinner scarves like this (not squares, at least not for me). Tie it like a headband and add big sunglasses and you will look cool. Trust me - I even got my husband’s approval at the beach, which is saying something.
And finally, if you don’t know about Alex Mill totes yet, well, they’ve been an LKO fave forever now. These A-list tote bags are on practically everyone’s wish list, and a certain med school graduate will be getting one soon. The weekday tote makes a great work bag, shopper tote, carry-on, beach bag or even a diaper bag….so yes, they make a great gift. Just prepare for an extra $100 for the monogram…which honestly makes the whole bag.
Lifestyle

I recently finished the book Strangers, and it’s already sparked a ton of conversations with friends and family who’ve read it too. Gwyneth Paltrow has already been tapped to play the lead in the Netflix series. Definitely a great pick for book clubs.
I also just read a book called Teddy. The author is actually a friend of Joan’s, whom she met in the Middle East. I really, really enjoyed it and highly recommend it. It’s Rome in 1969 and filled with glamour, fashion, art, international intrigue and more…most of the things we love here at the LKO Edit.

Do we feel like the dress is crisp poplin skirting and thicker jersey on top? Have you seen it? Looks like it sold out in this version but Quince seems to have a version.
